I’m always conflicted when I look at old police pictures. The officers have dressed so well, their uniforms are perfect. They respect the uniform they wear and the position they hold. I feel an undeniable connection with them, a sense of duty, integrity and sacrifice. I’m also reminded of a time when people who looked like me weren’t allowed to be police officers. I recognize that I have opportunities those before me did not and the responsibility that comes with that.
